How do I create task?

Press the Ctrl + N (On Mac use Command + N) or click in the input field on the top of every list or filter to write your task and then press Return/Enter. To input tasks/lists using an Asian input method, please go to 'Settings' and then 'Task/list creation hotkey' and change it to 'Command + Return'.

How do I rename a task?

Just double-click on the task you wish to rename - this will activate the edit mode. To leave the edit mode just click elsewhere or press Return/Enter.

How do I complete a task? 

To complete a task click the checkbox on the left side. You will find the completed task in the "Recent Done" section inside the list.

Can I reactivate a task?

Yes. Just click the checkbox of the completed task you want to reactivate and you will find it in your list again.

How can I sort my tasks?

You can sort your tasks by dragging them to another position or to another list. You can also mark particular tasks as important by clicking on the star symbol.

How do I delete a task?

To delete a task click on the 'x' to the right hand side. Please note, the deleted task can not be restored.

What is a starred task?

With the star on the left side of each task you can prioritize your tasks and mark them as important. By clicking on the star, your task will move to the top of your list.

How do I enter a due date for a task?

When adding a task you will see a small clock on the right side. Click on it to change the due date. If you want to set a due date for an existing task, just hover over a task and click on the clock icon again. If a task already has a date assigned to it, you can change it by double clicking (single click on Mac) on the date. You can also add a due date via text or our Smart Date Recognition option. Can I enter a due date directly in the input field?

Yes, you can. Enable Smart Date Recognition and add "today" or "tomorrow" to the task name.  The due date will be recognized automatically. You can also add "on may 21st" or "in 3 days" to a task. For a detailed list of possibilities, take a look at this article.

Can I add a task to the top of a list?

Yes, you can. Simply press Alt + Return to create a task and it will be added to the top of the list. If there is a starred task in the list, the new task will be added underneath it.

Can I switch lists while entering a task?

Yes. If you start typing a task inside a list, and decide you want to add it to another list, use the arrow keys to switch. The entered text will stay in the task input field.

Can I add a note to a task?

You can add a note to a task by hovering over a task and clicking on the page icon. The entered text is autosaved, if you press Esc, the note will be added to the task.  You can open as many notes as you want, at the same time.

Can I attach a file to a note?

Simply open a note and drag a file into it. Only the file path will be available, not the actual file. However, clicking on the file path will open the file in its relative application.

How do I search?

Press the Ctrl + F (On Mac use Command + F) to search for tasks or click in the search box at the upper right/left corner of Wunderlist.

How does the task search work?

Use the search the same way you would use a search engine. Start typing and Wunderlist will search through all of your tasks and notes - providing results in real-time as you type each letter.

How can I see all tasks?

To see all tasks just click on the infinity symbol at the bottom left. But remember, it is only a filter, not a list.

How can I see all completed tasks?

To see all completed tasks click on the tick at the bottom left. But remember, it is only a filter, not a list.

How can I see all priority tasks?

To see all priority tasks, click the star at the bottom left. But remember, it is only a filter, not a list.

How long are completed tasks kept for?

Forever (if you don't delete them).

How do I add a list?

It is easy to add a new list. Just click on the 'Add List' button below your lists and enter a name - then hit Return/Enter.

How many lists can I create?

Wunderlist is unlimited. You can add as many lists as you want.

How do I rename a list?

To rename a list just double-click on it, enter the new name and hit Return/Enter.

How do I delete a list?

To delete a list just click on the "x" next to it (the "x" is only visible on mouse over).

Can I synchronize manually?

You can sync manually by pressing the small green sync button in the bottom left/bottom right corner (underneath your lists). When it stops spinning, synchronization is complete.

Can I share a list with other Wunderlist users?

Absolutely. You can share an existing list at any time by hitting the sharing icon to the right of the list name.

How do I unshare a list?

You can change the access to your shared list(s) at any time by hitting the shared icon again (to delete or add participants).

How do I share tasks via email or Cloudapp?

To email a list, enter the list you wish to share and click on the mail icon at the top right of the window. Enter their email address and hit send. Super simple. To share lists to Cloudapp, Click the cloud icon at the top right. If you select 'Yes', your list will get uploaded to CloudApp and a secret URL will be generated.

You can use the URL to share your tasks easily with others who don't have a Wunderlist account (although we think they should have one) or share them publicly on Twitter.

Can I print tasks?

You sure can! Enter a list or filter and hit the printer icon at the top right.

Can I hide the sidebar?

Yes, of course. If you need more space, just click on the double arrow button at the lower right/lower left (underneath your lists).

Can I change the background of the app?

We've supplied you with some great backgrounds in Wunderlist. You can change the background easily by clicking the arrow up button on the bottom right/bottom left (underneath your lists).

Can I add my own background?

Custom backgrounds are not officially supported. However, with a little workaround, you can use your own backgrounds. Just navigate to the Wunderlist backgrounds folder on your harddisk.

On Windows this is usually something like: C:\Program Files\wunderlist\Resources\backgrounds  

On Mac the path should be something like: Programs\wunderlist.app\Contents\Resources\backgrounds  

You can overwrite any image with your own background image, just make sure it has the same name and .jpg file format. Wunderlist will then use your image instead. The best resolution for background images is 1920x1080px unless you want to use it in fullscreen mode on a display with higher resolution. However, we think you can't get much better than the images we have bundled for you!
